Have You Ever Cooked Pumpkin From Scratch?
I grew up on canned pumpkin and then my Mom switched to real pumpkin in my teens. You absolutely can taste a difference. I make homemade pumpkin butter and I use fresh pumpkin so i can absolutely agree that is a bit of work but WELL worth it. I ahve used two different methods, both have their merits.
1. Rinse pumpkin, Cut pumpkin into 3 or 4 pieces, clean out all the stringy guts and seeds, bake pumpkin in a baking dish with a rim - I use a lasagna pan - at 250 until a knife goes in easily, let pumpkin cool, take off outside of pumpkin and discard, put "naked" pumpkin chunks through a food processor
2. option two is the same as above except you take the outside of the pumpkin off before baking, this will allow you to decrease baking time since you can cut pumpkin into smaller chunks before you bake it.
